Education for All
Introduction: Education is the basic right of a man. But it is a matter of regret that the majority people of our country are deprived of education. About 70 percent people of our country are illiterate. We can not expect any development of the country keeping the huge number of people illiterate. So, education for all is the crying need in our country.
What is mass education: By Mass Education, we mean education for the illiterate mass of our country. This programme aims at imparting knowledge of letters to the illiterate, with a view to making them conscious and responsible citizens, making them capable of reading writing and doing simple calculations it is mass education that makes people know what is right and what is wrong and makes them conscious of their right and duties.
Necessity of education for all: Education is the precondition of any kind of development. Education teaches us how to earn well and how to spend well It enhances our ability to raise crops, store food and protect the environment. Many illiterate people do not have any knowledge of health, sanitation and population control. If they were educated, they could live a healthy and planned life. The illiterate people do not know how to cultivate their land through scientific methods. The number of illiterate females is more than illiterate male. They also do not know how to take care of their children. So, education for all, male or female is a must in our country education helps people to adopt a rational attitude. It is for all these that mass education is in most necessary in Bangladesh.
Barrier in executing this programme: In order to make this programme successful the first problem is that we do not have sufficient infrastructural support. According to survey almost half of our villages do not have a primary school Even most of the existing schools are running without a teacher. Besides, most of the poor parents are more interested to send their children to earn money by working than to send them to a school. This is a bleak scenario frustrating us.
Steps to be taken: However, the mass literacy campaign should be further strengthened. Required infrastructural facilities should be ensured by establishing as many schools as needed. Efficient teachers should be appointed in each and every school. Opening a night school in every village should be made compulsory. The poor illiterate people should be supplied with books, khatas and pencils. The teachers should be encouraged to teach them with satisfaction. Moreover, the guardians should be motivated both mentally and if needed, financially to send their children to school. We should also take all necessary steps for its bright success.
Conclusion: Education is light, ignorance is darkness and illiteracy is a curse. We are a free nation. We like to live with honour and dignity. We do not like to grope in the darkness with the curse of illiteracy on our heads. Let us all go ahead to make our country a land of light, knowledge and happiness and of prosperity.
