Population Problem in Bangladesh

Introduction: Population problen1 is the burning question of Bangladesh. Her population is increasing day by day. Every year more than two million people are being added to our population. It has become a serious problem for us. In fact, it is the number one problem in our country. This problem is now out of control.

High growth rate: Bangladesh is a small country of 1,47,570 square kilometers. But it has a huge population of 15 crores. The population of our country is increasing at an alarming rate. The present growth rate of population in Bangladesh is 1.41 %. If the population grows at the present rate, the population of the country will be doubled after 47 years. 6500 babies are born in our country every day.

Causes of overpopulation: There are many causes of population growth in Bangladesh. These are as follows Ignorance. Most of the people in our country are ignorant. We see that educated people take less number of children. But the poor who can not afford to buy food for their families has many children.

Unawareness: The people of our country are not aware of the problem of overpopulation. So they do not take. measures to control population growth through family planning.

Early marriage: Early marriage is also responsible for population growth. Most of the girl’s in rural areas are married off before they attain maturity.

High fertility rate: High fertility rate is the most important cause of population growth. One in every three women in Bangladesh becomes pregnant or mother before the age of 20 years.

Problems of high growth: Overpopulation creates, many problems. It creates the problem of food shelter, health, nutrition, unemployment, treatment, communication, and illiteracy, etc. Overpopulation obstructs to our national development. It has become a burden for our country. The whole nation has been suffering the grievous consequence due to overpopulation. The country will fall in acute poverty and people will lead a very unhappy and miserable life in near future if it is not controlled.

Steps to be taken for control population: The problem of overpopulation in Bangladesh is a great crisis. To solve his problem we should take effective steps. Those are given below:

(a) People should make aware of adopting family planning

(b) Early marriage must be stopped.

(c) No family should be allowed to have more than two children

(d) Our people must be educated.

(e) Our womenfolk should also be given training on family planning.

(f) They must be aware of the negative effect of overpopulation.

(g) Mass media can play a vital role in this regard.

Conclusion: Therefore, this growth rate of population must be checked. Because no improvement in our country is possible unless this problem is solved. But, the government alone cannot solve this problem. For this, all the people of Bangladesh and the government should join hands to control this population growth at any cost.
