Introduction: Students are the future of a nation. The students of today will be the architects of the nation tomorrow. Sci students should property equip themselves with requirements for shouldering the future responsibilities of the nation For this purpose, they must pursue knowledge with raptattenli0n.

Original duties of a student: Original duty of a student is to study. But he or she should not confine his or her knowledge to the textbook only. The student should read different kinds of books and newspapers to enrich his or her knowledge.

Service to illiterate people: The most important duty of students lies in removing illiteracy among the people. Students can do this duty during their holidays. They can go to villages and make people aware of the in1portance of education. They can set up night schools for this purpose.

Service of common people: Students can help common people in different ways. They can help the farmers by telling them of the need for scientific methods of cultivation. They can also help the people by telling them of the importance of birth control.

Service in health programmes: Students can do a lot for national health. In this case, the female student’s role is very important. They can teach illiterate women folk how to bring up their children and take care of their health. Besides, all students, in general, can teach ordinary people how to keep the environment free and clean.

Service in politics: The students play an important role in political activities. A large portion of our population is illiterate. They are not always Conscious of social responsibilities and civic sense.

Service in agriculture: Bangladesh is an agricultural country. Students can convince people of the utility of the modern method of cultivation. In this case, students can teach the illiterate farmers. They can help them actively to procure improved seeds from different centres of Agricultural Development Corporation. They show the use of fertilizers.

Service in natural calamities: Students can help the sufferings people during calamities. In such situations, they can collect funds for homeless and penniless people and take part in relief operations. Through the Red Cross Society, they can work for all the distressed of the world.

Conclusion: Finally, we can say that the students have much to do for society. Through social service, they can enrich their minds and serve the people. It is through social service that students can uphold the image of the nation. In fact, the social service of the students brings a double blessing.
