Change the following passage into indirect speech.
Narrative Style – 01
The patient said to the doctor, ”Last month my blood pressure was too high. Since then I have changed my food habits.” The doctor asked. ‘How? I’m. taking more fruits and vegetables, and very little fat in my diet. I’m having less sugar and salt now.”
Answer: The patient said to the doctor that last month his blood pressure had been too high and added that since then he head changed his food habits. The doctor wanted to know how he had changed the habit. The patient replied that he was taking more fruits and vegetables and very little fat in his diet. He also added that he was having less sugar and salt then.
Narrative Style – 02
The man said to the boy, “Are you going ·to sit for J.S.C Examination this year?” Yes.” said the boy. The man said, ”How is your preparation?” “I have good preparation,” replied the boy.
Answer: The man asked the boy if he (b) was going to sit for the S.S.C Examination that year. The boy replyed m the affirmative. Then the man asked the boy how his (b) preparation was. The boy replied that he (b) had a good preparation.
Narrative Style – 03
The teacher said to the student,'”Have you prepared your lesson toady?” No sir, replied the student. The teacher said, “Why do you not prepare your lesson?” “I was suffering from headache yesterday. I shall do 1ny work tomorrow,” replied the student
Answer: The teacher asked the student if he (S) had ,prepared his (S) lesson that day. The student respectfully replied in the negative. The teacher asked why he (S)” didn’t prepare his” (S) lesson. The student replied that he had been suffering from headache the previous day. He added that he (S) would do his work the next day.
Narrative Style – 04
Once I said to a little girl, “What is your mother’s name?” ”I know my mother’s name. But I wiH not tell you that,” said the girl. I said, “What clever girl you are!”
Answer: Once I asked a little girl what her mother’s name was. The girl said that she knew her mother’s name. She also said that she would not tell me that. I exclaimed with wonde that she was a very clever girl.
Narrative Style – 05
“Fahad, can you tell me ‘what I am teaching?!’ the teacher asked. “I am sorry, I can’t follow,” replied Fahad. “You can’t because you are not attentive; Be serious,” the teacher said.
Answer: The teacher asked Fahad if he could tell him (teacher) what he was teaching. Fahad apologized arid said that he could not follow. Then the teacher said that he (F) could not because he (F) was not attentive. He also advised him (F) to be serious.
Narrative Style – 06
“Have you prepared your lesson?”· “Yes, sir, I have,” I said you I like your sincerity.” my teacher said to me.
Answer: My teacher asked pie if I had prepared my lesson. I respectfully replied in the affirmative that I had. Then he thanked me and said that he liked my sincerity.
Narrative Style – 07
The beggar said to me, Will you give me some money? I have been suffering from fever for seven days.” I said, “What will you do with the money?” “I want to buy some medicine for myself. I am unable to move,” he said.
Answer: The beggar asked me if I would give him some money. He aded that he had been suffering from fever for seven days. I asked him what he would do with the money. He replied that he wanted to buy some medicine for himself. He added that he was unable to move.
Narrative Style – 08
“What is a puppet show?” Sabu asked his father. Father said, “Let’s go inside and you can see for yourself.” Inside the tent Sabu said. “How strange! A doll is dancing and talking!” Father said. “A man behind the screen is moving the doll.”
Answer: Sabu asked his father what a puppet show was. Father suggested/proposed to him (S) that they would go inside and added that he (S) could see for himself (S). Inside the tent Sahu exclaimed with wonder that it was very strange. He again exclaimed with wonder that a doll was dancing and talking. Father said that a man behind the screen was moving the doll.
Narrative Style – 09
I said to my friend, “where are you going in the summer vacation?” My friend said, “I have not yet decided. Let us go to my village home together.” “I will think about it,” I said.
Answer: I asked my friend where he was going in the summer vacation. My frierid said that had not yet decided. He also proposed me that we should go to his village home together. I rephed that I would think about it.
Narrative Style – 10
“Why did you not go to school yesterday’?” said the mother to the girl. “I was ill.” the girl replied. “How are you today?” the mother asked again. “l am well.” said the girl, “Don’t worry for me.”
Answer: The mother asked the girl why she (g) had not gone to school the provious day. The girl replied that she (g) had been ill. The mother asked agam how she (g) was that day. The girl replied that she (g) was well. She (g) requested her (g) mother ot to worry for her (g).
