Change the following passage into indirect speech.

Narrative Style – 61

“My dear friends,” said the stranger, “I have come here because I have a message to you. Could you please hear me?” “Let him say whatever he likes,” said the old man. “Oh! what a joy the message brought for us.”

Answer: “My dear friends said the stranger, “I have come here because I have a message to you. Could you please hear me?” “Let him say whatever he likes,” said the old man. “Oh! what a joy the message brought for us.”

Narrative Style – 62

The lass said to the lad, “Why are you looking at me agape?” “Don’t look at us in this way ” “We feel poring.” “If you are not silly, propose to your guardian to take me in marriage.” “Thank you for your proposal.”

Answer: The lass said to the lad, “Why are you looking at me agape?” “Don’t look at us in this way ” “We feel boring.” “If you are not silly, propose to your guardian to take me in marriage.” “Thank you for your proposal.”

Narrative Style – 63

The gateman of the school named Hira said, “Who are you? Please, give your identity. Otherwise, I’ll not let you go inside”. The stranger said, “Hira, at last, you have failed to identify your housemaster. I am an invitee there coming from Raj shahi.” The gateman said, “Sorry, sir, I can’t identify you in your disguise.” The stranger said. “No, don’t get nervous. I am pleased with your dutifulness observed by me.”

Answer: The gateman of the school named Hira said, “Who are you? Please, give your identity. Otherwise, I’ll not let you go inside”. (a) He said to me, ‘What is the name of your village?” “Shundorghona,” I said.

(b) Raju said to his friend, “I am happy today.”

( c) Karim said to his servant, “Do as I tell you.”

(d) Thank you very much, Sir,” said the headmaster to Mr. Ahmed.

Answer:

(b) Raju said to his friend, “I am happy today.”

Narrative Style – 65

The headmaster, said to the students, “The date of your final examination will be declared next week. So prepare yourselves for the final examination”. “Thank you, sir. We will work hard for our examination,” said the students.

Narrative Style – 66

“I came here yesterday from my town”. Fatema said. “Why did you come here?” I asked. “Mother sent me to you with this letter.” “How is your mother?”

Answer: “I came here yesterday from my town”. Fatema said. “Why did you come here?” I asked “Mother sent me to you with this letter.” “How is your mother?”

Narrative Style – 67

The teacher said to the boy “Why did you make a noise in the class? You are not attentive to Your lessons.” I am sorry, Sir,” said the boy.” I was asking for a pen to my friend as my pen ran out.

Answer: The teacher said to the boy, “Why did you make a noise in the class? You are not attentive to your lessons.” “I am sorry, sir,” said the boy. “l was asking for a pen to my friend as my pen ran out.”

Narrative Style – 68

Omar (R) said to the woman, “Where do you live?” The woman said, “I live in a poor hut at the south end of this town. I am hungry but there is no food in my house. Will you give me something to eat? Hazrat Omar (R) said, “Go home. I am coming with food and money.”

Narrative Style – 69

“Why are you sitting alone here? I have been looking for you. Let us play cricket in the held, Kajol said to me. No, I’m ill. Leave me alone,” said I.
