Introduction: Bangladesh is mainly a country of the village. About ninety percent of the total population live in the village. There are only a few cities and towns in Bangladesh. On the other hand, there are 68,000 thousand villages. So it may be that the whole country is a big village. So the development of the country mainly depends on the development of these villages.
The present condition of the villages: Although development of the country depends on the development of the villages, these villages are in deplorable condition. Almost all the inhabitants in the village are illiterate. They have various superstitions and prejudices. There is no good transport and communication, almost no medical facilities or good recreation facilities. Agriculture is their only source of income, but they are ignorant of the modern technology of farming. They have a very low yield. Flood, drought, pest, cyclone, etc. destroy their crops. People live in absolute poverty. Many people do not get their two square meals. Malnutrition, cholera, diarrhea, blindness and so many diseases are common to almost all the village people. The luckier people live in urban areas and the rural people live a neglected life far away from the amenities of modern life.
The necessity of the development of villages: The main source of our national economy is a village. The overall development of the country is not possible without the development of the villages. The entity of Bangladesh is dependent on the condition and improvement of the villages. Therefore, the villages will have to made self-sufficient and self-dependent.
The education development of villages: Illiteracy-is the main reason for the regression of the villages. Therefore, almost all the people in the villages will have to be made educated or literate. Night schools will have to be built up for the education of the adult or aged men and women.
Agriculture development: Most of the people in our villages are farmers. Our agro-farms are the main source of economic development. So, we shall have to develop our agriculture system by adopting the scientific method. Developed seeds and insecticides will have to be supplied to the farmers. Motor pumps for good irrigation will have to be supplied to the farmers.
Health development: We shall have to be attentive to the health of the villagers. Sufficient deep tube-wells will have to be set up for pure drinking water. We shall have to remove unhygienic environment cleaning up bushes and jungles of the village. Dormitory hospitals will have to be established for the diseased villagers.
The develop1nent of small industry: If we revive the small industries of the villages, we can ascertain the economic development of our country.
The development of communication system: We shall have to develop and repair the communication system of the villages, the roads, and streets of the villages will have to newly constructed for good transport.
Conclusion: If the nation as a whole turns an eye to the development of the neglected villages, it will bring about a radical change in the country. The whole country will e able to attain prosperity.
